The doom-lady duo have taken their exposure and used it as motivation to become even better performers. Their sound, even at its most droning, is now more elegant, the explosions of energy more accurate and precise. They have retained an organic roar to the music, especially the immense “General Sherman,” which evokes blood pounding through a body.”

Sundays are somewhat of a strange day for a metal gig. Typically, it’s when you wind down from the weekend and get ready for the work week ahead. And wouldn’t you know it, there’s another gig this Sunday, as desert rockers Totimoshi take their strange sounds to Toronto on their tour for their latest, Avenger.

They might not be in the Guinness Book of Records alongside Manowar and Motorhead, but Georgian “black doomed sludge thrash” nomads Jucifer have been blowing the roofs offa tiny clubs for years. Tonite, they make their annual trip to Toronto, where, for the second year in a row, they’ll be playing the Bovine Sex Club.

Having attending the previous event in Montreal, I decided to stay a bit closer to home and catch the inaugural event here in Ontario. YOB, Dark Castle and OTIS–Oh my!

I’m not one to mince words, nor to give perfect-10s, but I gotta say, last nite’s gig at the Courthouse was the best show I’ve seen in Toronto this year. The rock-solid triple-bill held its own with a coupla festival gigs I’ve seen elsewhere–and in terms of quality over quantity, it definitely takes the cake.

“A Storm of Light provided a performance that felt more like a denouement than a revelation. Their set featured a heavy visual component, in the form of projected videos that drenched the stage in light. It was quite lovely, which is unsurprising considering that vocalist/guitarist Josh Graham is the visual artist for Neurosis.”
