Gorania: GOATWHORE is Great (Hellbound’s letter of the day is “G”)

Goatwhore is one of those bands that lights a fire under my ass. Though generally regarded as a black metal band, they’re actually so much more. There’s a rugged punk attitude, the dirge ’n sludge inherent to Louisiana metal bands is certainly present—offering some definite doom sensibilities—and never before has their thrash influence emerged as prominently as it has now with the release of Carving Out The Eyes of God, easily their career’s highlight thus far.

Hellbound Radio: August 2, 2009

Ladies and germs, here is the playlist for this past Sunday’s edition of Hellbound Radio. This week we had our youngest guest yet. Sean’s older son Kieran (age six) rode shotgun with us (although for most of the taping he was playing games on www.tvokids.com). While young Mr. Palmerston isn’t really a fan of metal, when asked what he thought of the show Kieran said it was awesome.

Holy shit, two months already…

Behold, the long weekend of DOOM!

The closest thing to a stoner/doom festival we’ve had in Toronto was the 4/20 Sunday Stoner Rock Spectacular, a overambitious 10-band lineup put together by me and a buddy of mine. The lineup was all local, the attendance was mediocre, and the ElMo was pretty empty. Still, it was good times. So, when I heard that a similarly ambitious all-day ordeal was happening just across the border in Rochester, I made sure to confirm my attendance.

Buffalo’s finest heavy rock band hitting TO this weekend…

I know a guy who books a couple bars in Buffalo, and considers himself the king of their scene. (Well, he told me that in an email once, but I dunno if he was serious.) When I couldn’t get his band to play the Sunday Stoner Rock Spectacular last year, since it fell on a Jewish holiday, he suggested I get in touch with Chylde.
