Dr. Laura Wiebe (11 January 1976 – 16 August 2022)
My friend Laura Wiebe passed away earlier this week. I met Laura around 1995 when she was in a gothic metal band Embrace and they played a disastrous show in Guelph that I helped put together for my friends in Tchort (possibly still called Tchort and the Family Mantis at the time). Laura was smart,…

ZOMBI – ZOMBI and Friends Volume 1
This album is possibly the Zombi album that will get the least amount of repeated plays of their entire recorded output but it is a really fun listen nonetheless. It’s a big step, at least to these ears, from what the band is best known for, but kudos to them for putting it out there.

Happy 30th Birthday to… Iron Maiden’s Somewhere In Time
Thirty years ago today Iron Maiden released their sixth studio album, the progressively tinged Somewhere In Time. Following up the incredible success of the preceeding Powerslave album and subsequent World Slavery Tour, Time came nearly two years after Powerslave‘s release and found some diehard fans disappointed with its more experimental leanings. The album was advanced…

Happy 30th birthday to… Motorhead’s Orgasmatron
It seems almost impossible to believe, but thirty years ago on this date Motorhead‘s Orgasmatron album was released on an unsuspecting public. It was the first album to see release after the band’s 10th anniversary celebrations and was the first full-length to feature Phil Campbell and Wurzel on guitar, along with former Saxon drummer Pete…
