Wrap the Body is a neat little experiment, but is likely only bound to be wholly accepted and tolerated by Racebannon die-hards, masochistic punishment gluttons and maybe even the occasional DJ. It’s probably a good thing that only 500 of these have been pressed.
I’m going to go out on a not-so-brittle limb and say that the radio show that is loosely associated with this website is probably one of the most diverse heavy/extreme music programs on the face of this ridiculous planet. This is due in large part of the tastes, collections, whims and tolerant attitudes of myself and my co-hosts. To prove it – and to finally start promoting the show we’ve been doing for four years now – we’re going to start posting our detailed playlists a day or two after each on-air stint. Take a listen sometime; I guaranteed you’ll be either surprised as shit, amazed, confused or totally pissed off at the massive scope of diversity our show delivers.

I have no idea if Andrew Bonazelli has ever picked up an instrument, let alone ever played in a band, but his position as the reviews and managing editor of the almighty Decibel Magazine and the fact that he’s just released his second book, A Regular, means there’s a connection to the world of extreme music and a reason to throw the hellbound.ca spotlight on the man for a while.

Author, writer, singer, fighter, actor, father, Eugene S. Robinson is the inspirational everyman for those of us choosing to follow the loves of their life. He’s also a pretty good poster-boy for those for whom the notion of getting a full-time, square job makes their skin crawl and testicles and/or ovaries shrivel up and retreat into the adjacent nether regions.

The vinyl section of hellbound.ca is suffering a review shortage and while our discussion and review of these latest releases from Baltimore’s A389 Recordings won’t get this little bit of online real estate swinging like a 70s key party, it will at least take it off the proverbial life support of the past few months. Egads! There’s a certain amount of analogy in that metaphor as these two bands, as solid, serviceable and enjoyable as they both are, aren’t going to be the ones to set the world of extreme music alight.
The music world is filled with similar smoke and mirrors acts. We’re told over and over and over again that so-and-so’s new album is the one that’ll re-define the genre. How many times have you heard in the last couple years that this-and-that’s “stunning” comeback album is “highly anticipated” and their best yet? Better than Bonded by Blood? Not bloody likely! The lies haven’t stop piling up since the music industry released its ad campaign for Elvis’ second record and this month’s Rimshots lifts the veil, cuts through the crap and saves you some money and/or hard drive space.
I was surprised as shit to find out that one of the two bands currently ruling the world of DIY (since Fugazi broke up, anyway) is Marillion. Portland, OR’s grind-punk heroes Tragedy are the other, but since they seem to love their privacy and isolation as much as I love their music, let’s focus on Marillion. Plus, the story of how they came to be where they are today is pretty fascinating.

On Sunday, February 28th, Hellbound Radio was delighted to have some special guests in the studio. Jason Decay and Ian Chains make up two-thirds of Toronto metal trio Cauldron and they made the trip down the QEW to Hamilton and hung with us in the INDI 101 studios, so we in turn dedicated a huge chunk of the three hour show to their band.
It’s special guest time again this weekend on Hellbound Radio! This Sunday night we will be joined in the INDI 101 studios by Toronto heavy metal trio CAULDRON to talk about the band, their debut album Chained To The Nite and metal in general. We’ll be spinning music from CAULDRON and have also asked them to bring in some of their own favourite CDs to spin on the show.
