    Enslaved – RIITIIR

Enslaved’s unique, progressive, black metal style is the root of the voyage you take on this album. It’s arguably the band’s most uniform element, and they hit all the right notes this time.

    Bison BC – Lovelessness

Like a good blues song Lovelessness connects with the listener. The heart feels what the musicians feel. Pain, sorrow, anger, joy and lovelessness. Bison filter those feelings through vicious heaviness and impactful songwriting. No matter the transition these Vancouverites do it seamlessly and effortlessly. Nothing sounds forced.

    God Seed – I Begin

I Begin is an apt title for what is a new beginning of sorts, and like many beginnings it is not perfect. However, its lesser moments can be overlooked in favour of the enjoyable whole.

  • It’s the Week of the Witch, it’s the Week of the Witch next week…

I’m not sure there’s been a better week for female-fronted doom in this city than the forthcoming seven days. Between tour stops by Royal Thunder, Witch Mountain and Castle and a headlining gig by Toronto’s own Blood Ceremony, ’tis a trippy time for those who like tritones and plaintive female vocal-tones, indeed!

Sylosis have just unleashed their latest masterpiece Monolith through Nuclear Blast on October 5th. On this, their third album, the band has taken their blend of progressive thrash and moved things forward. While still a complete ‘shred fest’, Monolith has more feel to it, more ambience if you will. Taking the band to record where…

  • Bullet – Full Pull

Overall, Full Pull is a terrific outing for Bullet and their first for Nuclear Blast. While the album contains little in the way of surprises, the songs are strong and catchy with great sing along choruses. Sometimes, that’s all you really need in a record.

  • C’mon, it’s 2012. Do we really need a new KISS album?

I’ll admit that when I was 10, KISS was one of my favourite bands.  Hey, it’s hard for an impressionable young child not to be lured in by The Hottest Band in the LandTM, what with their makeup, costumes and family-friendly lyrical content.  But after I saw the Alive 35 tour a couple years back,…
