FOR THE LOVE OF METAL
Though they’ve been building quite a name for themselves in Europe and on the underground sludge/doom scene, Montreal’s Dopethrone had never actually played Toronto until last Friday.
I’ve always thought that Black Pussy was a dumb band name. When I first heard of them opening for Vista Chino a couple years back, I thought “Why would you call your band that!?”
I can’t even remember the last time I celebrated Halloween or Samhain or whatever, but stick two stoner/doom luminaries on stage on a Sunday night in November, and that’ll get me up off my ass faster than you can say “Too much bass, Batman!”
Though they’re hardly a household name around here, I’d hafta say Ufomammut drew a pretty decent crowd to the Mod Club last night. Personally, I had been looking forward to seeing them for quite some time, and they really did deliver–visually as well as musically.
