FOR THE LOVE OF METAL
Hellbound’s writers compared notes on the top albums of 2013, and though we didn’t always agree, we did manage to identify some areas of collective appreciation. And so… (drum roll) Here are the best ten metal albums of 2013, according to Hellbound. (The math never lies!)
Hellbound Metal: “Wonderful songwriting and incredible dynamics surround the boundless emotional core on More Constant Than The Gods. Each and every track is precious in its pain and power. In fact, there used to be two categories, Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Metal Performance, before the academy decided to combine the two last year for the first time since 1989. What was so special about ’89? Well…
I’m not sure there’s been a better week for female-fronted doom in this city than the forthcoming seven days. Between tour stops by Royal Thunder, Witch Mountain and Castle and a headlining gig by Toronto’s own Blood Ceremony, ’tis a trippy time for those who like tritones and plaintive female vocal-tones, indeed!
This isn’t the kind of album you’d listen to during a first date, but it’s great to do reading or studying to. I now feel ready to take a long nature hike on a chilly November day.
