On August 23 – 25 the Southern Ontario Metal Fest came to Hamilton’s Club Absinthe and Hellbound’s Laura Wiebe was there to soak it all in. Here is her recap of the festival, with live photography by Adam Wills.

You keep asking when it’s coming back, so here it is. Here is what the staff of Hellbound.ca has been enjoying during the months of July and August 2013.

“Though revisiting Schuldiner’s musical legacy meant the sense of collective loss was strong, the sense of fellowship was stronger. In the end it was less for sadness than a cause for celebration.”

A capacity crowd came together at Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre last week to witness France’s mighty Gojira, Canada’s own Devin Townsend Project, and Chicago’s critically acclaimed The Atlas Moth, and what a show it was. Hellbound’s Adam Wills was there to witness the whole thing.
I’m not sure exactly what this list means – is this list any better than any of the individual lists? Probably not. Every list that comes out has their own personality, has albums that may be less obvious. But perhaps what this list does show is what the collective metal media thought was the “can’t miss” albums this year.

Since Hellbound.ca is a Canadian-owned and operated metal publication, we do things a little bit different than most. While 2012 was coming to a close we asked all of our contributors to pick their Top Canadian metal albums of the year. We then tabulated up their responses and have created our fourth annual Top 10 Canadian Metal Albums writers poll.
