Castevet/ Æsahættr/ Sound Asleep/ The Sustained Low ‘C’ of Richard Strauss’ ‘Also Sprach Zarathustra’ @ Soybomb, Toronto ON, March 24th 2012

Hoping to inspire venom, Castevet found themselves facing a crowd that was listening intently, but far more interested in passive osmosis that an active confrontation. With no other weapon, Castevet responded by wielding their music like fists and broken bottles, bloodying the crowd as much as they could.

Black Space Riders – Light Is The New Black

If I was heading to a pub in space, there is no doubt in my mind that I’d be picking the one that uses Black Space Riders as its house band. This is dirty psychedelic space sleaze at its finest.

    Anathema – Weather Systems

By Raymond Westland With the release of We’re Here Because We’re Here UK-based progressive/alternative rockers Anathema managed to get back on top of their game again after years of stagnation. • Bobby Liebling is NOT on drugs.

Although he came off as a coked-out space cadet on the two occasions I’ve seen him perform, and I’ve read many an interview where he clearly appears to be off his rocker, I can safely say that Bobby Liebling is not on drugs. Because I’ve seen him on drugs, in the Last Days Here documentary,…

  • On Top – Top Heavy

    On Top – Top Heavy

Overall barring the vocals this is a well done album, where fans of this style will find enjoyment. The guitar work is excellent, the vocalist has his moments of greatness, and the songs are catchy enough. This isn’t the best traditional metal release you’ve ever heard, but it does have some worth.

Iced Earth / Symphony X / Warbringer @ The Fillmore, Charlotte NC, March 6, 2012

Review and photos by Justin Richardson Even though the golden era of power metal has been over for years now, the double bill of Symphony X and Iced Earth can do nothing but excite someone who remembers that period fondly. From the virtuosity of Symphony X’s Michael Romeo to the precision rhythm of Iced Earth’s…
